Only the right watch bands

Given the options when considering a new or replacement watch band, finding the right one can be a little overwhelming. Here’s a few important factors to consider before buying your next watch band.

Leather watch bands

As with your actual timepiece, leather watch bands can vary greatly in quality and appearance from brand to brand. At one end of the spectrum there’s the inexpensive standard leathers and synthetic leathers. While these budget options might seem cheaper than a high quality leather, a cheap leather watch band can actually cost you more in long term repairs and maintenance due to poor stitching or leather quality.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are the high end leather watch bands made of snake, alligator, ostrich, or other exotic leathers. These watch bands are extremely high quality with careful attention to detail, and can last for years with proper care.

One important factor to consider with leather watch bands is sizing. Since leather bands cannot be easily adjusted like metal link bands can, it’s important to select the right size up front. Leather band sizes range from small (6 inches in length) to extra large (9 inches or more). The standard women’s watch band is 6.5 – 7 inches long, whereas the standard men’s watch band is between 7.5 – 8 inches.

Metal watch bands

Metal watch bands are perhaps the most popular style of watch band due to their classic appearance, durability, and ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. They’re great for day-to-day wear, and the right material can even make for a great formal watch. Unlike leather watches, it’s relatively easy to resize most metal watch bands by adding or removing links to fit your wrist, however it still helps to know your wrist size before ordering so you don’t need to make additional adjustments.

Rubber watch bands

Rubber watch bands are highly functional, perfect for athletes or those with an active outdoors lifestyle. The materials are often incredibly durable, yet inexpensive, and incredibly resilient to weather and moisture that can damage other watch bands.
